Fun fact:Football-mad Uruguay was the host of the first World Cup, in 1930. The hosts became the first World Champions that year, beating Argentina 4-2. Uruguay won the Cup again 20 years later, upsetting hosts Brasil 2-1 in the mammoth MaracanĂ¡ Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. In the 2010 Cup in South Africa, Uruguay showed its footballing prowess once again, reaching the semi-finals, where the team lost to the Netherlands.
