Grinzing is a small village formerly on the outskirts of Vienna that has been swallowed up by the city's expansive growth. Despite being part of the city, Grinzing retains its village atmosphere, lying amid rolling hills and relying heavily on its traditional produce: wine. Tourists and Viennese alike flock to Grinzing on weekends to sample the young wines, or Heurigenort, in cozy taverns called Heurigenlokalen. During his November 2003 visit to Austria, the Monkey was no exception, but between glasses he did manage to take a short stroll around charming Grinzing.

Escaping the winter chill in one of Grinzing's numerous Heurigenlokalen (taverns), the Monkey enjoys a warming cup of glühwein. This hot drink suffuses herbs into red or white wine, creating a delicious concoction guaranteed to ward off the cold. Der Affe looks forward to his next chance to sip glühwein in Austria.
