Tierra del Fuego has vast areas of untamed Patagonian wilderness, and perhaps the most dramatic landscapes are those where the last stretches of the Andean range meet the far southern seas. One of Argentina's finest parks, the Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, is at just such a meeting point of land and sea. The Monkey took a sublime trek in the national park, passing through forests and rocky shorelines before ending his day in a canoe.

Here, the Monkey relaxes by the waters of Bahia Lapataia. The conical mountain across the bay, the Cordón Pirámide, is just inside Argentina, near the border with Chile.

El Mono rests on a canoe oar in Lapataia Bay, which opens out onto the Beagle Channel. While rowing around, he spotted many birds, including geese, cormorants, and his personal favorite, penguins.

This shadowy photo, taken in daylight during the Monkey's trek in the National Park, goes some way toward showing the density of the ancient forests of Tierra del Fuego.

El Mono gives his muscles a break at the shores of Lago Roca, a small and tranquil lake in the Parque Nacional. The mountains across the water are in Chile.
