| Monkey Ends 2005 Vow of Silence
11 January 2006 Frequent (and even infrequent) visitors to monkeytravel.org may have noted a mysterious absence of updates to the site during 2005despite the Monkey traveling to several countries including Tunisia, the Czech Republic, France, and Argentina. The Monkey has kept a low profile in recent times, at least in terms of his web presence. But as 2006 takes off, the Monkey is ready to be more active again. His "vow of silence" is over, and the Monkey is hoping to roll out a stream of new images and anecdotes over the coming months. |

| Monkey Congratulates Bear Cosmonaut
04 October 2004 The Monkey was ecstatic to hear about the recent adventures of Terence, a British bear who became perhaps the first ursine cosmonaut in history! Terence soared into space as a co-pilot aboard SpaceShipOne, a leading contender for the Ansari X-Prize. Read the full stories here and here. While Terence's journey does raise the bar a touch in the travel stakes, the Monkey is pleased to welcome Terence back to earth, and congratulates him on his fantastic accomplishment. |

| Monkey in Canada, Kudos from AFH's Victor
13 September 2004 The Monkey recently returned from his first journey to Canada. He visited Québec City and Montréal, where he had a splendid time soaking up the region's fascinating history and multiculturalism. Although the Monkey is still completing his massive update to Argentina (after his April/May trip there), rest assured his efforts are being redoubled to bring the latest pictures from his travels to the site soon. In other good news, the Monkey received kudos from a new pal at one of his favorite nonprofit organizations. Architecture for Humanity's mascot, Victor, was kind enough to send a photo thanking the Monkey for linking to the group's site. In return, the Monkey thanks AFH and Victor for their reciprocal link, which led to a record number of visits to Monkey's site last week. Cheers, AFH and Victor! |

| Ex-Liberian President Seeks Monkey's Help
30 March 2004 The Monkey is now able to confirm that on 24 March 2004 he received a confidential communiqué from the ousted Liberian President, Mr. Charles Taylor. The exiled president was attempting to garner the Monkey's covert assistance to transfer $20 million out of a Ghanaian securities fund (full details reproduced below). While the Monkey's global operations could benefit immensely from the $14 million share he'd receive from the dealings with Mr. Taylor, the Monkey felt compelled to decline the offer for a number of reasons. Foremost among these, the Monkey's ethics would not let him deprive war-torn Liberia of funds that might help in the country's reconstruction and reconciliation. Further, the Monkey was concerned that Mr. Taylor appeared to be sharing an e-mail account with Barrister Remi Abubakar, the lawyer who contacted the Schlepps in a separate effort to export a $48 million family fortune from Saudi Arabia (click here). Despite not going forward with Mr. Taylor's offer, the Monkey is pleased that his previously limited contact with Africa has been reaching new levels. He looks forward to more fruitful contacts with Africa, and hears that in particular, there are many opportunities to be had in Nigeria. | Schlepps Sought in Saudi Money-Smuggling Scheme
23 March 2004 The Schlepp bears were recently roused from their hibernation by an urgent message. A Saudi lawyer, Remi Abubakar Esq., contacted the Schlepps by e-mail seeking their participation in a scheme to smuggle a $48 million fortune out of Saudi Arabia (full message reproduced below). After pondering the offer, the Schlepps decided to opt out of the deal and return to their slumber. Schlepp spokesbear Strelka issued a brief statement: "While we regret the tragedy that has befallen the Ashgar family and are aware that $48 million would ensure us a steady supply of Nutella chocolate spread for the foreseeable future, we harbor doubts as to whether the Saudi authorities would accept us as the Ashgar family's next of kin. If only some Nigerian lawyer would contact we Schlepps about smuggling a large sum of money out of his country " Full Text of the E-Mail Message Received by the Schlepps: Wed, 24 Mar 2004 01:21:01 -0800 |
Could the Schlepps be the legitimate next of kin of a Saudi millionaire? |

| History Yet To Be Written
1 February 2004 Although the Monkey's website has launched and is fully functional at present, there is still a lot of work to do. Country home pages are being revised to include a brief history as well as details of the Monkey's travels there. Some countries already have their introductory histories in place. Updates are underway for Austria and Bulgaria following the Monkey's November 2003 visit to those countries. Check back often for new information and photos. |
